The T.C. O’Leary’s Literary Society

Inspired by the tremendous amount of literary talent from a country as small as Ireland, our little Irish pub hosts a robust literary society. Three separate book clubs meet weekly on the back patio of the pub. Even in the colder months, the intrepid members bundle up to read outside and out loud together. All three welcome newcomers. See more details below about each group and email info@tcolearys.com if you’re interested in joining.

Mondays 6-8pm

This group reads literature often related to the season. They are currently reading the mythic fantasy Circe by Madeline Miller and in the fall plan to begin Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.

Tuesdays 6-8pm

For seven years, this group has been reading novels by Irish writers. They have read over a dozen books so far, from classics to modern mysteries. Each selection is discussed and voted on by the group. Depending on length, they start a new book about every other month.

Wednesdays 6-8pm

In the fall, a group of Joyce fans and other brave souls begin Ulysses, possibly the most significant piece of Irish literature. With the goal of finishing by Bloomsday the following June, it’s a long journey worth taking. As one group member said, “In a tumultuous time where faith in humankind is hard to find and most gratification is expected instantly, this maddening, beautiful book was a light to paddle towards.”
